Life can ask a lot of us, sometimes more than we realize we’re carrying. Sandra offers a space where you don’t have to hold everything together: a place to slow down, feel understood, and begin making sense of what you’re experiencing.
Sandra is a counsellor-in-training with a background in social work, crisis support, and supporting first responders. She works with individuals navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, major life transitions, identity changes, parenting, and the emotional impact of working in high-stress helping professions.
Sandra brings personal experience as a first responder and as the partner of one. She understands the demands of shift work, high-pressure environments, repeated exposure to difficult experiences, and the expectation to remain capable and composed when situations change in seconds. Sometimes the shift ends, but the nervous system doesn’t get the memo. The things we see, hear, and carry can follow us home.
Life transitions have also shaped Sandra’s story. Originally from Germany, she moved to Canada seven years ago and experienced firsthand the challenges and opportunities of building a new life.
Her practice is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), the Gottman Method (Couples Therapy), Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She offers a personalized path toward balance and well-being—rooted in hope, growth, self-compassion, and empowerment. Kathleen works through a trauma-informed, inclusive, and neurodiversity-affirming lens, ensuring every client feels met with empathy, safety, flexibility, and non-judgment.
Beyond her professional life, Kathleen loves to spend time outdoors with her family and is an avid traveler who treasures exploring new places and cultures. She also enjoys spending time with her mini-labradoodle, baking goodies for friends and family, and playing piano.
Choosing the right counsellor is a meaningful step. Kathleen invites you to book a free 20-minute meet-and-greet—online or in person at her welcoming Westshore office—to see if her approach feels like the right fit for your needs and goals.
As a mother, Sandra understands the profound transition of becoming a parent. Motherhood can bring tremendous joy and connection, along with exhaustion, changing priorities, new expectations, and the challenge of making space for yourself while caring deeply for someone else.
Sandra’s approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity, collaboration, and respect for each person’s lived experience. She believes therapy begins with feeling safe, respected, and truly heard. Rather than telling clients how they should feel or what their experiences mean, she works alongside them to understand their world, identify what matters most, and find meaningful ways forward.
Her integrative approach draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Emotion-Focused approaches. She has also completed additional training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), an evidence-based approach commonly used to treat post-traumatic stress. Her training also includes HeartMath HRV biofeedback, a skills-based approach that uses real-time heart-rate variability feedback to help people better understand and regulate their physiological stress response.
Sandra is especially passionate about supporting first responders and other frontline professionals, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, healthcare professionals, and others who carry the emotional weight of caring for or protecting people. She is also interested in supporting people navigating trauma, anxiety, stress, grief, relationships, parenting, identity, and significant life changes.
At the heart of Sandra’s work is the belief that healing isn’t about becoming someone different or simply getting rid of difficult emotions. It’s about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, learning to relate differently to what you’re carrying, and creating more flexibility, connection, and choice in how you move through life.
You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. Sandra is here to meet you where you are and walk alongside you as you find your way forward.
