Michelle McElroy
Founder & Clinic Director
MC:CP, RSW, RCC, BCRPT, BCATR, EMDR
As a certified counsellor and trauma-informed specialist for young children, adolescents and female adults, Michelle compassionately guides you through your personal healing journey - from painful, emotional past events and traumatic experiences to a greater sense of strength, self-experiences, and compassion.
She believes no one should have to deal with their past alone. She has seen many people try, and it often creates frustration and can lead to more trauma. She creates a safe space to help people through their individual situations to find a bit of light on the other side. Everyone can create a new horizon for themselves.
Michelle believes that we can all benefit from counselling and prides herself in providing a culturally sensitive, gender inclusive, judgment-free, safe place for all. She has training and experience in working with children and youth who are neurodiverse, including Autism and ADHD. She works from an attachment-focused lens. She uses both client-centred and directive approaches.
Michelle has vast knowledge and understanding of the foster care system and adoptions, disordered eating and eating disorders, PTSD, complex trauma, and c-PTSD. Due to the complexity of trauma, she has also worked with addictions, Dissociation, and suicidality.
Due to the complexity of being human, it makes sense that talk therapy does not work for everyone. Her experience is that different modalities such as Art Therapy, EMDR, Expressive Art Therapies, Mindfulness, Trauma Sensitive/Informed Yoga, and Play Therapy can offer effective healing when words cannot or when our brains get stuck.
